Night Child

Here is a piece I did for myself....I was sketching out ideas inspired by a story by George MacDonald "The Day Boy and the Night Girl" that I read in my younger years. I decided to put most of stars in her hair when I was finished painting.

I am going to work on a piece next that incorporates both the girl and boy (from the story), a two piece that flows into each other...

Here is a piece that I did for Lawrence.com about gender in politics. The Art Director particularly liked the heels in one of my sketches in part due to Palin's ubiquitous quote: "heels are on, gloves are off"

I wanted to allude a little to the negative side of the story a bit with the heel about to possibly step on the white house and the suggested darker clouds above the white house.

Travel

Here is the final piece... I brought in layers of watercolor textures in Photoshop. I had alot of fun working on the swirls and details in her hair and in making the scarf look translucent while still keeping the watercolor texture.

Here is a piece Im currently working on...I worked on the sketch last night and got the composition just the way I wanted...I cant wait to paint it and put the finishing touches on it...

I thought I would try and do another piece similar to that of "Golden Dreams" and it gave me alot problems...
but I learned from it...and so there it is...

The Dallas Morning News

Here is the piece that I did for The Dallas Morning News, sketch to finish. The article was about a womans travels and her gratitude towards having seen all the beauty along the way...
I really enjoyed working on this project...and I loved the title with it.

I used watercolor and ink and to get some interesting texture with the ink I used sticks, dried flower stems and pods.

Here is a piece that I originally did in watercolor...and then took into Photoshop. I brought in layers of watercolor and ink texture and tried to build up depth. Its different from the way I usual work, but I found it refreshing and I think it turned out allright.
